Some plumbing issues need to be handled by professionals, but there are also many problems that homeowners can fix.

Leaky Pipes

A leaking pipe can cause significant problems. Not only does it waste water, but it can also lead to mold and mildew growth that affects your home’s air quality.

Leaks can also lead to structural damage that can cost you money in the long run. That’s why it’s essential to call a professional plumber to address your Bellevue plumbing concerns.

The first step is to identify where the leak is coming from. If unsure, it’s best to shut off your water supply and stop the leak until a plumber arrives.

Frozen Pipes

Pipes that freeze during the winter can be a severe issue. They can crack or burst, leading to water damage and mold growth.

If you have a frozen pipe, call a professional plumber immediately. This will allow them to thaw the line and determine any damage that may be present.

Before you call a plumber, however, it’s essential to take some simple steps to try and thaw the frozen pipe. First, locate the frozen pipe and check it for leaks.

If you find the pipe, thaw it with a hair dryer or space heater but DO NOT attempt to soften the line with a blowtorch or any other open flame, as this could cause a house fire and even cause the pipe to burst.

Unusual Smells

Odors from your plumbing system are often a sign of something wrong. They don’t have to be severe issues but should be addressed immediately so they don’t worsen.

Usually, you can resolve many plumbing odors yourself without hiring a professional plumber. However, if you notice that the smell is persistent or it’s coming from the drains in your bathroom, then it’s time to call a professional plumber to look at the problem.

Sewer gas smells are a common source of foul-smelling odors in the home, and they are a warning sign that there is a problem with your sewer vents or sewage pipes. They can cause respiratory issues and other health concerns if exposed for a long time.

Low Water Pressure

If you are experiencing many low water pressure problems throughout your home, it may be time to call a professional plumber. This can be a costly and complicated issue that only a trained professional should handle.

One of the most common reasons for low water pressure is a leak in your plumbing system. This can be a minor or significant gushing leak affecting all house faucets and appliances.

If you are still determining if your low water pressure is caused by a leak, a quick and easy way to test is to check the shut-off valves near your water meter. These are typically on the street side of your water meter and the side of your home.

Water Damage

Water damage is caused by many things: leaks, clogs, sewage backups, flooding, broken pipes, construction defects, and appliance malfunctions. Regardless of the cause, taking action immediately is essential to prevent further damage.

Water spreads quickly and soaks into floors, walls, soft furnishings, and other belongings. If left unchecked, it can lead to mold growth and structural damage.

Unless you are a skilled tradesperson, it’s best to call a professional plumber for most plumbing repairs. They are experts at repairing plumbing systems and know how to safely do the work without creating more problems later on.
