How Chiropractic Adjustments Can Address the Root Cause of Back and Neck Pain

November 28, 2023 by Mark Potter

Chiropractic care offers natural pain relief that doesn’t rely on medications. It also promotes overall wellness by improving spinal motion and alignment. Many people are surprised to learn that chiropractic adjustment can cause a popping sound during treatment. Small pockets of air or bubbles cause this in the fluid surrounding joint tissues, which stretch quickly during manipulation and gas release.

Boosts Your Immune System

In a body where the immune system functions at peak health, bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi can be killed before they can take over. Our immune systems can be boosted by spinal manipulation and chiropractic care. Joint cavitation is the popping sound you might hear during a professional spinal manipulation. It’s caused by releasing gasses from the joints when they are stressed. This process improves the alignment of the spine and enhances nervous system function. A healthy nervous system and spinal alignment ensure clear communication from the brain to your immune cells, allowing them to combat germs effectively. Studies show that people who receive regular chiropractic adjustments have higher antibody levels than those who don’t get adjusted.

Relieves Inflammation

A Chiropractic treatment is a drug-free way to relieve inflammation and prevent back pain or neck pain. It is also effective at treating joint dysfunction, enhancing immune function, and improving posture. It involves hands-on manipulation of the spine and other joints. It corrects misalignments, called subluxations, and increases movement to reduce nerve irritability. You may hear a cracking or popping sound during your adjustment. This is caused by gasses released during a specific type of joint movement called cavitation. Some people should not undergo spinal manipulation, such as those with osteoporosis, inflammatory arthritis, or a herniated disc. Before receiving spinal manipulation, it is essential to consult with your medical doctor to determine whether you are a candidate for the treatment. The doctor should also know about your medications and other health concerns.

Relieves Pressure on Nerves

Poor posture can place extra pressure on your spinal nerves, causing pain and tingling sensations. By addressing the root cause of your neck or back pain through manual techniques, chiropractors can ease those symptoms and promote healing. Chiropractors also assess your musculoskeletal system and recommend improving your posture and ergonomics to minimize stress on your spine and nerves. They can use several adjustment methods, including the Toggle Recoil technique, the activator method, and the sacral-occipital technique. Pinched nerves are caused when a nerve is compressed in the neck or spine. By identifying the impacted nerve, a chiropractor can perform spinal manipulation to remove the compression, relieving your symptoms and reducing your risk of future nerve problems. Think of your local chiropractor as a secret service agent for your spinal health, protecting you from those pesky nerve agitators!

Increases Your Flexibility

Chiropractic adjustments correct spinal misalignment and help restore proper function to the nervous system. This reduces strain on the back and neck, allowing you to move more freely and improve your posture. It also helps you avoid reliance on pain-killing medications. Chiropractic techniques vary but typically involve physical manipulation to locate stiff or misaligned areas. Chiropractors use palpation, X-rays, and other diagnostic tests to help them understand the condition of your spine and locate problem spots. Besides helping you feel better, regular chiropractic adjustments can increase your flexibility, boost your immune system, and make breathing easier. For instance, if your spine is misaligned in the thoracic region, it can cause acid reflux and heartburn. Treating this condition with chiropractic adjustments can alleviate these symptoms and ease digestive problems.

Reduces Pain

The back is a complex structure comprised of vertebrae, discs, and nerves that must work harmoniously to support the body and facilitate movement. Misalignments in the spine can cause pain and discomfort. Chiropractors are trained to assess spinal alignment through physical examinations and diagnostic tools and use joint manipulation techniques to correct alignment, alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and heal dysfunction. The popping or cracking sounds you hear during chiropractic treatments result from gasses released in the joints during spinal manipulation. Releasing these gases is called joint cavitation and occurs when the facet joints that connect the vertebrae are stretched quickly during chiropractic treatment. Chiropractic can help bring the musculoskeletal system into proper alignment to relieve pain, and it is an alternative to surgery and medications that can have uncomfortable side effects or become addictive. It can also improve flexibility, healing, and overall function in the body.
