RPh is enough for work as a pharmacist back in the day. But sadly, things have changed badly. Pharm.D. introduce in 1992 and it quickly became a standard requirement for work as a pharmacist. Now it is considered more valuable than RPh by many companies. One of marketing leader laugh when someone asks ‘How many pharmacists who has RPh work for your company?’ and says why would we hire RPh when we have full of Pharm.D. pharmacists.
But is Pharm.D superior to RPh? No! To get an RPh, 5-6 year studies are needed. It gives the student the knowledge base for becoming a pharmacist. Pharm.D’are also same duration programs. It is not like a Ph.D. Both RPh and Pharm.D pharmacists have the same knowledge.
But those companies think Pharm.D ones are more qualified. This has caused a lot of RPh pharmacists to lose their job. It is very sad. One pharmacist who has 25 years of experience has to leave his job because he has an RPh. He even has further degrees. But the company didn’t consider it. Why people lost their job with very experience because of a fancy degree. Instead of firing him, they should have given him a promotion.
